ACT’s Peer Education Program was created out of a joint effort with Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. ACT recruits young women and men throughout Tulare County. They receive 20 hours of science-based educational training to conduct peer education and street outreach to bring awareness to HIV/STI’s and contraception.
Peer Educators conduct street outreach to teens and young adults at parks, downtown, night clubs, and events. Peer Educators set up informational tables at local events. They also have flyer drop offs at a handful of local businesses to promote services. When interacting with others, Peer Educators answer questions related to reproductive health, inform others about where they can access services and provide information in an outreach packet that consists of clinic information (time, days, services) and condoms.
ACT’s outreach work has proved to be beneficial to getting patients into the clinic because more individuals are aware of the services offered by Family PACT providers.
