An uprising issue America is coping with everyday is teen pregnancy. Our community has one of the highest teen birthrates in the nation and it is gradually on the rise. This is a huge concern that usually gets shrugged off by people, or simply thought of as uncontrollable. For starters, we really should be encouraging sexually active teens and young adults to responsibly seek access to pregnancy prevention options. Finding key places that are available for them to learn accurate information about products such as birth control, condoms, and Emergency Contraception (or Plan B) can influence proper health decisions to stay healthy. Pharmacists can be one of the best resources for our teens.
Pharmacies are safe and should appeal that way to all, not just to the elderly. Our local pharmacies can benefit our entire community when displaying teen friendliness from staff, by answering questions about pregnancy prevention products without judgment, quicker waiting time, and additional resources that customers will be happy to use. If these places can sustain a healthy environment (where the pressure of stress isn’t on our backs as soon as we begin to walk in) soon these environments can begin to establish trust with our youth. Teens will remember this trust and have confidence knowing they can get help from trustworthy professionals and hopefully will turn away from their old shy ways or pride that has held them back from asking for help. When teens can learn to trust, it becomes safe for them to start asking questions. I praise the caring pharmacies that I can walk into comfortably because I am allowed to seek professional help regarding family planning without judgment and walk out as a more knowledgeable and satisfied person.
With the resources and birth control options that the pharmacies provide, as well as condoms and Emergency Contraception, our entire community can gain access to family planning and it will become easier for youth as well as adults to control their own reproductive health. Education and preparation for decision making will benefit our world and also lower the on going issue of teen pregnancy through prevention. Tulare County should value the pharmacies that provide friendly service of quality health care and advice. I give many thanks to such pharmacies and a huge round of applause for being so caring and extra friendly with our teens and young adults. We appreciate it!
