The mission of ACT is:

to engage women of all ages in leadership opportunities that will promote social and personal change.

WHO ARE WE?

Advocacy Coalition of Tulare County for Women and Girls is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization committed to eradicating the oppression that lies deep in the roots of Tulare County and its surrounding Central Valley region. They empower women to be leaders and raise their voices to be heard in ways that impact our society.

VISION

Through social justice activism, ACT promotes social growth and change with a special emphasis on rural women and girls. The current issue that emerged as an immediate concern is reproductive rights and justice and the impact of the anti-choice climate in the Central Valley. It is the vision of ACT to focus on many other areas of human rights in years to come, as the capacity of ACT is expanded.

PROJECTS

The Female Leadership Academy (FLA) was born in 2005 and we have successfully graduated two classes of FLA. We began our third year of FLA in the Fall of 2007. The FLA targets young women living in Tulare County ages 16-23. In the Academy, they explore women’s issues, developing leadership skills and taking action focused on promoting reproductive rights and justice in their local communities. They connect with other young women doing similar work in the State (REACH LA, NARAL California, PPMM). They lobby in Sacramento at Reproductive Freedom Day. ACT Steering Committee members oversee the project and provide leadership, mentoring and guidance, and resources to ensure their success. The alumni from the Academy will continue to work with future academies and stay involved in local community action projects through their continued membership in ACT.
